Formerly known as Lanchester Polytechnic until 1987 and Coventry Polytechnic until it was awarded university status in 1992, Coventry University has been awarded by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide the ‘Modern University of the Year’ three years running since 2014,‘University of the Year’ in the annual Times Higher Education (THE) Awards for 2015 and ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide for 2015. 

Nationally, Coventry University is ranked 13th (The Guardian University Guide 2019), 44th (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018) and 47th (The Complete University Guide 2019) in the UK and is ranked within the top 600 universities worldwide following the QS World University Rankings, 2018. The University was also accoladed the Teaching Excellence Framework Gold Award in 2017.
