Background/History
Founded in 1949 and received its Charter in 1962, University of Keele, located in North Staffordshire, is nestled in 600 acres of countryside on an estate with extensive woods, lakes and parkland, formerly owned by the Sneyd family, thus ranked as the 6th most beautiful university by The Daily Telegraph.
Why Keele University?
Among the UK universities, Keele University is placed 34th out of 119, jumping up the ranks by 8 spots in 2016, as according to The Guardian University Guide, 2017. Similarly, it is ranked at 43rd (The Times and Sunday Times University Good University Guide 2016) and 46th (The Complete University Guide).
Keele University’s founding ethos ‘the pursuit of truth in the company of friends’ still guides the institution, with teaching conducted in small groups and a reputation for world-leading research undertaken in a thriving campus-based community.
This can be seen with the school having been ranked 1st in the 2015 National Student Survey of UK universities for overall student satisfaction with an exceptionally high score of 95%- above the likes of Oxford, Cambridge and the Open University. Far exceeding the national average of 86% and having been ranked in the top 10 for 5 years (topping the table in both 2014 and 2015), this result underlines Keele University on-going commitment to student experience.
Feedback from Keele's undergraduate final year students found them to be most happy with well-organised and intellectually stimulating courses, and lecturers being available when needed, good at explaining things and enthusiastic about what they are teaching. Students also gave excellent ratings to the availability and quality of library, learning and IT resources.
The university has an impressive 96% graduate employability rate and is ranked 4th in the UK for high-quality staff and lectures (Times Higher Students Experience Survey 2015)
Academically, the University is separated into 3 faculties:
1) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences;
2) Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and;
3) Faculty of Natural Sciences
Keele’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is seen as one of UK’s leading centres of applied research in primary care and is a national centre for studying muscoskeletal disorders. The university is also renowned for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach and its Faculty of Natural Sciences is central to this.
Subject areas where research at Keele has been rated world class are Allied Health Professions, Primary Care, General Engineering, History, Music, English, Politics, Law, Biological Sciences, Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences, Physics, Maths, Psychology, Social Work and Social Policy, Philosophy, Business and Management and Computer Science.
97% of the university's research is classified as world leading and of international importance, as a result of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014).
Keele University International Study Centre (ISC)
The Keele University ISC provides academic tuition and language support for international students who do not yet reach the requirements for entry to a Keele University undergraduate degree.
Programs offer include International Year One and Pre-Masters program
International Year One - Pathway into second year of undergraduate degree program
The IFY is delivered by StudyGroup and is taught on campus at the LJMU ISC.
The International Year One is an intensive program of academic subject, study skills and English language study that is designed to equip you for entry into the second year of an undergraduate degree.
You can choose from the following pathways:
- Business and Management
- Computing
- International Relations and Politics
- Media
Pre-Masters Program (PMP) - Pathway to the postgraduate degree
The PMP is a specialist preparation course that is designed to meet the needs of international students. It is a two-term program of academic subjects, study skills and English language study that will prepare you for studying a postgraduate degree at Keele University.
You can choose from the following pathways:
- Business and Management
- Computing
When you receive confirmation of your place to study at the ISC, you will receive a conditional offer of a place at one of the specified master's degrees at the university.
Once you successfully complete the program, and achieve the required grades, you will join your chosen master's degree.
