What is Physiotherapy?
A noble profession, Physiotherapists are trained specialist with regards to the movement and function of human beings. Physiotherapists aid in the assessment, treatment and prevention of human movement on account of disabilities, illness or trauma. In general, the role of a physiotherapist is to relieve the pain, improve muscle strength, joint range and mobility, increase exercise tolerance and improve respiratory function of a patient. Physiotherapist work in a diverse variety of environments such as hospitals, rehabilitation centres, hospices, private clinics, schools and sport sectors.
A BSc in Physiotherapy will impart students the clinical knowledge and skills required to become a qualified Physiotherapist. Undergraduates will be taught the core theory and practices of subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Neurology, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Cardiovascular Respiratory. In addition, students will develop awareness and knowledge on various areas of health practice, in conjunction with biological, psycho-social and spiritual perspectives of health. Physiotherapy undergraduates would also often be sent for elective work placement to integrate theory and practice and also improve their clinical reasoning skills. Students may work within a hospital environment, a community-based environment (School or Clinics) or within independent and voluntary areas.
