Background/History
Royal Holloway College was founded by the Victorian entrepreneur and philanthropist Thomas Holloway in 1886. 1n 1985, the college merged with Bedford College to create what is today know as Royal Holloway, University of London. A public research university and a constituent college of the federal University of London, the University is situated west of Egham, Surrey, within the Greater London Urban Area. Listed as one of the world’s most beautiful universities by the Daily Telegraph, the 135 acre university is a lively and friendly place to live, study and socialise.
Why Royal Holloway University of London?
Royal Holloway is ranked 19th in the UK and 129th in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2015). Recognising its broader outlook as a global university, the University is placed in 30th position in the world (9th in the UK) in the category of “International Outlook for 2016.
Similarly, Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked the college 47th in Europe and 118th in the world for 2015.
Academically, Royal Holloway is organised into 3 faculties:
1) Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences
2) Faculty of Management, Economic and Law
3) Faculty of Science
The University is particularly strong in arts and humanities with various courses frequently ranking in the top 20 of national subject rankings. Predominantly, Royal Holloway’s strengths lies in Marketing (4th), Music (7th), Creative Writing (8th), Geology (15th) as according to The Complete University Guide (2017).
Royal Holloway International Study Centre (ISC)
The Royal Holloway ISC provides academic tuition and language support for international students who do not yet reach the requirements for entry to a Royal Holloway undergraduate degree.
As a student of the ISC, you will be part of the Royal Holloway community from the day you start your program, and can therefore use all of the facilities on campus. The ISC staff will work closely with you when you come to choose your degree program, advising on academic requirements, career opportunities and suitable subjects to achieve your goals
International Foundation Year (IFY)
The IFY is delivered by StudyGroup and is taught on campus at the Royal Holloway ISC.
During the IFY you will specialize in your chosen field of study, but will also be introduced to a variety of related modules, giving you the ability to progress to combined degree courses.
You can choose from the following pathways:
- Arts, Media, Film and Music
- Business
- Economics
- Sciences
- Social Sciences
After completing the IFY and successfully meeting the progression grades for your chosen degree course, you will have the opportunity to progress to undergraduate study at the University.
You can choose from many options, including single honours, joint honours and major/minor combination degrees.
