Background/History
Established in 1821, Widener University is a recognised Doctoral/Research University and a Community Engagement Institution, classified by The Carnegie Foundation. Founded as a preparatory school for boys in Delaware, over the years in acknowledgement of its extensive content and offerings, the institution became what is known as today. Located south of Philadelphia, Widener University comprises of four campuses; Main Campus in Chester, Pennsylvania spanning 110-acre and its satellite campuses in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware.

Widener University International Study Centre (ISC)
The Widener University ISC provides academic tuition and language support for international students who do not yet reach the requirements for entry to a Widener University undergraduate degree.
The ISC offers an International Year One program and Pre-Masters program. Direct Admissions in to Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programs are also available.
International Year One - Pathway into second year of undergraduate degree program
The IFY is delivered by StudyGroup and is taught on campus at the Widener University ISC.
The IFY is a one, two or three semester program of specialized courses in American culture, study skills and English for Academic Purpose that provides a direct path to degree study. The program offers progression routes onto a variety of degrees at Widener University, preparing you for undergraduate study. You will take courses from Year One of your chosen degree program, allowing you to earn credits.
There are four pathways available:
- Business
- Engineering and Sciences
- Hospitality
- Social Sciences
Pre-Masters Program (PMP) - Pathway to the postgraduate degree
The PMP program offers courses in English language, GRE/GMAT preparation, and graduate research and study skills. In addition, students will be able to take two graduate courses in their fields, which will save them both time and tuition toward completing their Master's degree.
You can choose from the following graduate degrees:
- Business
- Hospitality
- Engineering
Intakes are usually in Spring (January), Summer (May) and Fall (August) each year.
